La question du bien-être animal traverse la poésie du XIXe siècle. Victor Hugo dénonce la mise en cage des oiseaux, Rimbaud critique l'exploitation animale dans les abattoirs et Émile Goudeau représente le sort des bêtes de cirque. L'essor des sciences du vivant a transformé la perception des animaux au XIXe siècle (Schaeffer), constat auquel la poésie ne se dérobe pas. Mais qu'est-ce qui singularise le poème comme véhicule de la cause animale ? Faut-il considérer que les effets qu'il déploie...
