Este artigo discorre sobre os benefícios e a aplicabilidade da automação residencial, também denominada Domótica. Segundo a Domotics Integration Project (DIP), Domótica ou tecnologia da casa inteligente é a integração dos serviços e tecnologias, aplicados a residências, flats, apartamentos, casas e pequenas construções, com o propósito de automatizá-los e obter aumento em relação à segurança e proteção, conforto, comunicação e gerenciamento técnico. Também neste trabalho é apresentada uma síntese de elementos que podem compor uma "residência inteligente", além de algumas vantagens obtidas com sua integração e, por fim, são ilustrados alguns sistemas aplicados na automação residencial, com diferentes tipos de tecnologias, que têm apresentado destaque comercial no cenário nacional e internacional.
