Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Our team is pleased to present our proposed redesign for the West 16th Avenue and Southwest (SW) Marine Drive intersection. Our design focuses on enhancing safety, improving traffic flow, and creating a more inclusive environment for road users. By implementing a roundabout design, the authors aim to address the current challenges of the intersection while setting a precedent for future intersection redesigns in Metro Vancouver and beyond. The author’s design choices were made carefully, considering present and future traffic volumes, and aiming to optimize intersection footprint and prioritize active transportation. The roadway geometry incorporates 30-metre approach curves to slow down approaching vehicles safely, while a 50 m radius exit curve facilitates smooth acceleration onto SW Marine Drive. Furthermore, by enhancing pedestrian pathways and implementing physically separated bicycle lanes, our group aims to create a safer and more accessible environment for non-motorized road users. This aligns with our commitment to promoting sustainable transportation solutions and fostering a more equitable transportation system. The roundabout design also includes a gateway structure to improve aesthetics, and a stormwater management system to minimize environmental impact and enhance sustainability. Scheduled for completion by September 12th, 2024, this transformative project represents a significant investment in our community’s transportation infrastructure. The project’s total cost is estimated at 4.4 million dollars. The group's dedication to innovation and excellence is evident in every aspect of our design, from the optimized roadway geometry to the integration of cutting-edge stormwater management techniques. Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
