Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

This umbrella review synthesizes the reported outcomes of physical activity initiatives delivered in the workplace on the prevention or management of chronic health conditions in adult workers (aged ≥18). The increasing prevalence of chronic health conditions among adults poses a significant burden on the Canadian workforce, impacting the well-being and productivity of workers. Beyond traditional safety measures, a significant modern challenge to worker health is the increasing prevalence of chronic conditions, necessitating a proactive shift towards health promotion. Physical inactivity is a primary risk factor for the development of chronic health conditions, highlighting the critical need for health promotion strategies designed to enhance physical activity through intentional opportunities in the workplace. Given that a substantial proportion of Canadian adults spend a significant amount of their time at work, workplaces offer a unique and strategic setting for health-promoting interventions, reaching broad demographics within the population. These initiatives aim to improve workers’ functional capacity and quality of life, in addition to reduced absenteeism, increased productivity, and an increase in worker retention for employers. While the existing umbrella reviews contributed insight to understanding broader workplace health programs, the synthesis of outcomes associated with workplace PA initiatives in the prevention or management of chronic health conditions across diverse employment settings remains unaddressed. As such, following a comprehensive search of published systematic reviews on this topic, this umbrella review provides a detailed overview of associated outcomes to inform future health promotion initiatives and research efforts.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
