Abstract

Children with health complexity live with multiple health conditions and have limitations in how they can manage their everyday living. These children need specialized care, but they often do not receive the healthcare and care supports that they deserve because their care needs are complicated. Children with health complexity and their families can also face disadvantages in receiving accessible and high-quality care. Currently, we have an incomplete understanding of what these disadvantages are. We also do not know how disabilities related to these children’s health condition interact with their social and cultural background to affect their health and healthcare experiences. The goal of this project is to gather and summarize studies completed on this topic using a tool called a scoping review. This information will help plan future care so that we can better support the unique needs of children with health complexity from all social and cultural backgrounds.
