Cette étude fournit une première évaluation du rôle que jouent les brevets dans les décisions des entreprises relatives à leur sortie du marché, grâce à un examen des stratégies de sortie, des opérations de fusion et d'acquisition, et des activités de brevetage des entreprises. L'étude, fondée sur les données de la Base de données de recherche sur les brevets canadiens et du Fichier de microdonnées longitudinales des comptes nationaux, suit les sorties de cohortes de nouvelles entreprises, en vue de répondre à la question suivante : quel est le rôle des brevets dans la décision des entreprises relatives à leur sortie du marché? Et plus précisément : dans quelle mesure la possession de brevets contribue-t-elle à la survie d'une entreprise (effet de survie attribuable à un brevet) ou à la sortie du marché par suite de fusions ou acquisitions (effet déclencheur d'un brevet)?
