Abstract
Digitised version of IE TCD MUN P 23/418, a memo from William Hardwell [Hardiwell? Hartwell?], Limerick, 14 September 1655 stating that he cannot pay the College rents to Mr. Cardiff until he gets a warrant from the Commissioners. See also IE TCD MUN P 23/418 (digitised and available in this repository) for the original manuscript from which this item has been copied. Text as follows: "Mr Cardiff having in behalf of the College at Dublin made demand of several rents within my charge, which said rents though appearing due to the said College, yet in regard the said rents with others in a rent soley are returned to the Commissioners General as a charge upon me and for that I am by my instructions not to issue out any part of the public Revenues but by special warrant with a letter of advice from the said Commissioners General I have for the said reasons refused payment thereof and humbly refer the matter to the said Commissioners General to be concluded as their honors shall think fit. Limerick 14th September 1655 Wm Hardwell". From the 'Papers relating to College estates, Munster', part of the collection of muniments of Trinity College Dublin. The papers of IE TCD MUN P 23 relate to the College estates located in Munster. The Munster estates are the most fully documented, dating from 1578 to 1947, with a collection of 1,851 items including accounts, correspondence, loose rentals, and petitions and memoranda of all kinds, being particularly rich in papers produced in the course of lawsuits in the later 17th and early 18th centuries.
