Nærværende undersøgelse "ISSP 1996: Regeringens rolle III" er et tværsnitsstudie, som sammenligner folks holdninger til politiske institutioner på tværs af lande. ISSP (International Social Survey Programme) er et international samarbejde, som har en række deltagende lande og denne undersøgelse drejer sig om folks holdninger til regeringens rolle. Undersøgelsen er den 3. i rækken af ISSP-undersøgelser om regeringens rolle. Følgende lande deltog i undersøgelsen: Østrig, Bulgarien, Canada, Cypern, Tjekkiet, Tyskland (øst og vest), Frankrig, Storbritannien, Ungarn, Irland, Italien, Japan, Letland, New Zealand, Norge, Filippinerne, Polen, Rusland, Slovenien, Spanien, Sverige og USA.
