Nærværende undersøgelse "ISSP-undersøgelse, 1997" er et tværsnits studie, som er gennemført i en række lande. ISSP (International Social Survey Programme) er et international samarbejde, som har 49 deltagende lande. Denne undersøgelse drejer sig om danskernes holdning til deres arbejde, samt deres syn på forholdet mellem arbejde, fritid og familie. Herunder hvad et godt arbejde er, holdning til arbejds pres, relation mellem ledelse og medarbejdere. Tilfredshed med arbejde samt syn på beskæftigelsesmuligheder. Følgende baggrundsvariable er medtaget i undersøgelsen: Alder, køn, civilstand, antal personer i husstanden, respondentens indkomst, husstandens indkomst, stemmeafgivelse ved sidste folketingsvalg. Følgende lande deltog i undersøgelsen: Bangladesh, Bulgarien, Canada, Cypern, Tjekkiet, Frankrig, Tyskland, Stor Britannien, Ungarn, Israel, Italien, Japan, Holland, New Zealand, Norge, Filippperne, Polen, Portugal, Rusland, Slovien, Spanien, Sverige, Schweiz, USA og Danmark.
