Abstract
À l’heure où d’innombrables métaux et minéraux sont appelés à jouer un rôle crucial dans la transition énergétique qui vise un avenir plus sain et à faible intensité carbonique et plus largement dans la lutte mondiale contre le changement climatique, le secteur minier se doit de devenir de plus en plus durable. En 2004, l’Association minière du Canada (AMC) a mis sur pied l’initiative VDMD – Vers un développement minier durable (TSM© – Towards sustainable mining), une norme interne que tous leurs membres doivent respecter. Cette initiative a pour principal objectif de permettre aux entreprises minières de répondre aux besoins de la société en matière de produits minéraux, métalliques et énergétiques de la manière la plus responsable qui soit sur les plans social, économique et environnemental[1]. Nous proposons, dans un premier temps, de nous attarder au contexte de la création de cette norme, qui aura bientôt 20 ans, d’analyser ensuite la façon dont elle est mise en valeur (ou non) dans la sphère publique et enfin de poser un regard critique sur l’utilité cette norme interne de l’Association minière du Canada au regard de l’acceptabilité sociale.
