Abstract
Phytomyza agromyzina Meigen Material examined. OKLAHOMA: Payne Co., Mehan, 36.014339° N, 96.996744° W, 13.iv.2016, em. 22.iv.2016, M.W. Palmer, ex Cornus drummondii, #CSE2661, CNC653985 (1♂). Hosts. Cornaceae: Cornus canadensis L., C. * drummondii C. A. Mey., C. sericea L. (Spencer 1969, 1981); we have also seen leaf mines on C. alternifolia L. f., C. amomum Mill., C. nuttallii Audubon ex Torr. & A. Gray, and C. racemosa Lam. Leaf mine. Long, narrow, entirely linear, on the upper leaf surface; whitish, with frass in alternating black strips, often with a broad, green central band that occupies nearly the full width and may obscure the frass pattern. Puparium. Yellowish-brown; normally on the ground, but not infrequently remaining in the exit slit at the end of the mine (Spencer 1981). In the Oklahoma example, the puparium was formed entirely within the mine. Distribution. USA: CA, *OK, WA; Canada: AB (larvae only), QC; Europe. We have also seen leaf mines (including photographs posted to www.BugGuide.net) in USA: AK, CO, IA, ID, MA, KS, NH, OR, VT, WI; Canada: NB, ON, SK.
