Abstract
Una cupola geodetica è un poliedro convesso, di solito con facce \ntriangolari, i cui lati giacciono approssimativamente sulle circonferenze massime \ndella sfera circoscritta al poliedro. La prima cupola geodetica fu costruita \nda Walther Bauersfeld nel 1922 a Jena in Germania. Tuttavia, fu l’architetto \nRichard Buckminster Fuller che, a partire dal 1948, dette un notevole impulso a \nquesta tipologia di costruzioni; a lui si devono le cupole geodetiche più note, \ncome, ad esempio, la famosa cupola realizzata per l’Expo di Montreal del 1967. \nIn questa nota studieremo le cupole geodetiche dal punto di vista geometrico, \nmostrando alcuni esempi di queste realizzazioni architettoniche. È interessante \nnotare che le molecole di alcuni virus hanno la forma di cupole geodetiche.
