Abstract
Hillside Farm consists of a small farmstead located in the parish of Peak Forest to the west of Chapel-en-le-Frith, in Derbyshire. The farm is set on Sheffield Road, to the south of Rushup Edge, situated on the boundary between the Dark Peak and Light Peak areas of the Peak District National Park. The surveyed buildings comprise a combination cowhouse and hayloft (Building 1), and a detached store (Building 2). The main barn (Building 1) retains much of the original 18th century fabric of its exterior walls, and although it has lost its original roof and internal fixtures, the original plan form and circulation of the building remains legible. An extension was surveyed to the west of this original core, comprising an hay barn. Building 2), which may have originally served as a pig sty, with external hopper door for dropping in feed in is north wall. The buildings are simply built and furnished as befit their use, and their design and architecture are typical of their period and location. The surviving internal fixtures and fittings in both buildings are all of mid-20th century date. No original doors or windows survived, all either modern insertions or replacements. Overall it is considered that although the building lacks the degree of survival or architectural/historical interest to be considered of regional or higher heritage significance, the building possesses a local level of significance in relation to its form, materials and age which contributes positively towards the character of the surrounding historic landscape.
