New results from Metis coronagraph on board of Solar Orbiter

Abstract
<!--!introduction!--> Metis is the coronagraph on board of Solar Orbiter. The instrument images the extended solar corona in a field of view from 1.7 to 3 degrees in the linearly polarised visible light wavelength band 580-640nm and in the narrowband around 121.6nm HI Ly-alpha line, thus providing direct information about the two major components of the solar corona: electrons and protons in the region where the acceleration of the solar wind takes place. Given the novelty of the design and the orbital configuration, Metis provides for the first time simultaneous ultraviolet and visible light images of the solar corona, allowing to apply the Doppler dimming technique and retrieve the wind velocity on the plane of the sky. In addition, it is the first coronagraph to obtain high spatial resolution images (4000km) at high temporal cadence (down to 1s). These images are revealing the presence of acoustic wave propagation through the solar corona.
