Abstract
Este artigo estabelece uma comparação entre o Quebec e o Brasil no que diz respeito à dimensão erótica das relações entre missionários jesuítas e populações nativas, nos início da colonização das Américas. Recorrendo a proposições sobre a temática do biopolítico, recortadas de Michel Foucault, e a proposições sobre o erotismo, tomadas de Georges Bataille, propõe-se uma leitura de documentos da época, para desvendar as relações entre o escrito, a ética e a estética. A partir daí, elabora-se uma reflexão sobre os excessos do erotismo que levam ao sadismo e ao masoquismo, fundamentada no exame das relações que, através dos sacrifícios, estruturam a economia sexual desse encontro de culturas. Suplícios ou abstinências, canibalismo ou sacrifícios religiosos são examinados como formas típicas pelas quais a carne é considerada em uma rede de laços eróticos, antes de serem canalizados para o intercâmbio das línguas, que passa a ser o principal transmissor dessas relações simbólicas ambíguas ao longo dos séculos. A ordem simbólica das Américas encontra assim uma filiação típica, da qual o Quebec e o Brasil continuam sendo sinais tangíveis.Résumé: Cet article interroge la dimension érotique de la rencontre entre les missionnaires jésuites et les autochtones dans les premiers temps de la colonisation des Amériques, dans des parallèles entre les situations au Québec et au Brésil. À partir d’une réflexion sur la thématique du bio-politique, reprise de Michel Foucault, et de celle de l’érotisme, issue de Georges Bataille, une lecture de certains documents d’époque est proposée afin d’y relever la trace des corps, sous les traces écrites. Une fois que les rapports entre l’écrit, l’éthique et l’esthétique sont établis, il s’agit de réfléchir aux excès de l’érotisme qui portent du côté du sadisme et du masochisme dans l’examen des relations qui, par le biais des sacrifices de tous ordres, structurent l’économie sexuelle de cette rencontre des cultures. Supplices ou abstinences, cannibalisme ou sacrifices religieux sont examinés comme formes typiques par lesquelles la chair est considérée dans un tissu de renvois érotiques, avant d’être canalisées dans l’échange des langues qui devient le principal transmetteur de ces rapports symboliques troubles au fil des siècles. L’ordre symbolique des Amériques y trouve ainsi une filiation typique, dont le Québec et le Brésil demeurent des signes tangibles.Mots-clés: Amériques; ère coloniale; jésuites; autochtones; érotisme; sexualité; pervesion; sadisme; masochisme.Abstract: This article develops a comparison between Québec and Brazil colonial contexts with respect to the relationships between Jesuit missionaries and Native populations, from the point of view of their “erotic” dimension. The analysis is based on Michel Foucault’s views on 17th century’s desire and flesh economy, coupled with Georges Bataille’s ideas about eroticism, which defines its aesthetic and moral limits, together with their transgressions. The question of the types of love and sexual relations expressed in this context is then addressed through the forms of transgressions of their limits, opening the way to sadistic and masochistic perversions. The article concludes with the legacy of these perverted erotic relationships that find its expression in the definition of the general cultural identity of contemporary Québécois and Brazilian contexts that reflect both their common and diffused origins in the Americas.Keywords: Americas; colonial era; Jesuits; Natives; eroticism; sexuality; perversion; sadism; masochism.
