Comparison and Validation of E-Cigarette Dependence Measures

Abstract
This study will assess the convergent validity between the E-cigarette Dependence Scale (EDS, formerly PROMIS-E), the Penn State Electronic Cigarette Dependence Index (PS-ECDI), and a self-reported measure of e-cigarette dependence among a cohort of 3000 Canadian youth aged 16-24. In addition, the concurrent validity and internal consistency (where applicable) of each of the three measures will also be assessed. The aim of this study is to establish these measures as having high concurrent and convergent validity for measuring e-cigarette dependence in youth, thus deeming them appropriate measures for use in future studies of e-cigarette dependence in adolescent and young-adult cohorts.
