Abstract
La Estación Biológica de “El Ventorrillo” es una estación de campo perteneciente al Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales (CSIC) que se asienta en terrenos pertenecientes y amablemente cedidos por los Ayuntamientos de Cercedilla y Navacerrada. Se encuentra enclavada en la carretera que sube al Puerto de Navacerrada (Madrid), a 1500 m. de altitud, en plena Sierra del Guadarrama. La inicialmente llamada Estación Alpina de Biología del Guadarrama fue construida en 1911, gracias a la iniciativa del prestigioso entomólogo Ignacio Bolivar, por la “Junta para la Ampliación de Estudios e Investigaciones Científicas”, presidida por Santiago Ramón y Cajal. Las actividades de la estación se iniciaron con un curso sobre la “Historia Natural del Guadarrama” impartido por Francisco de las Barras de Aragón (el primer Director de El Ventorrillo). A partir de ese momento por la Estación pasaron en sus primeros años naturalistas e investigadores de gran prestigio como, Bolivar, Ceballos, Dusmet, García Mercet, Vicioso, Huguet del Villar, etc., aparte de algunos naturalistas extranjeros y los alumnos de la entonces Facultad de Ciencias Naturales del Museo. Esta actividad científica desarrollada desde El Ventorrillo convirtió a la Sierra del Guadarrama en uno de los escenarios de investigación más renombrados de Europa
