Abstract
The couple in question are Rober William Clement Wilde and Barbar Henrietta Bellew. Their daughter, the contributor, brought a large photograph album made of leather embossed with Egyptian symbols and monuments like pyramids and Sphinx.Her parents were both in the RAF. Her mother came from the West Country and her dad was from the East End and they met in Egypt during the war. The album records their experiences during the war. They were in Egypt for the whole of the war. Then her mother came home first and Dad later. The contributor pointed to one of the pictures labelled WOG with some embarrassment but said she had been told that it meant Western Oriental Gentleman! The pictures are all labelled and dated but she is puzzled by one or two which appear to have been bought- like the picture of Rommel. Her Mum was a corporal who made packs for the plane crews in case they were shot down and Dad was a private on the ground crew.They always said they had a good time in Egypt. They never talked about the bad times. They spent most of their time in Cairo but also went to Alexandria. In the album, there is a picture of Joe - A Canadian - and the daughter had met him on a trip to Canada.Her parents were both demobbed at the end of the war.
