Un certain nombre d’auteurs d’expression française des Antilles ou d’Amérique du Nord se réclament de l’héritage de Rabelais, plaçant l’auteur de Gargantua à l’origine de l’histoire littéraire francophone. L’article réfléchit aux raisons de cette appropriation, en s’interrogeant plus particulièrement sur le sens de la mise en avant, parmi les auteurs humanistes, de Rabelais, ainsi que sur son statut même (une simple figure tutélaire, un auteur lu ?) éminemment variable selon les cas.
