Abstract

IE TCD MS 9543 is a diary kept by Michael Davitt, dated from the 1st January to 20th May 1885, and labelled on the front cover with 'DN 16'. The diary has a note on the 1st of January stating that this is the 'Tour round the world year' with the first stop being Paris. The entries end on the 20th of May with Cologne to Brussels. An envelope with loose inserts (taken from the diary) has entries for the 2nd February 1885 concerning Rome; 4th July 1885 concerning Port Said, Egypt (the entry in the diary referencing time in Port Said is the 28th of March); 20th July 1885 concerning Jerusalem (10th of April) and 11th August 1885 concerning Jaffa (17th April).
