Animation of Quantum Exchanges in Parahydrogen Molecules on Graphite

Abstract
Animations of a representative configuration (imaginary-time particle paths) of a (p-H2)_8 parahydrogen cluster adsorbed onto a graphite substrate at T = 0.125 K. The configuration is generated by a quantum Monte Carlo simulation based on the continuous-space Worm Algorithm [1]. Both cases are shown in which quantum statistics is fully included (N8.mp4) and in which molecules are treated as distinguishable, i.e., no quantum statistics (N8_noexch.mp4). Gray squares represent the top layer of carbon atoms on the graphite substrate, while parahydrogen molecules are shown by filled circles, individually and distinctly colored for the purpose of following individual molecules and comparing initial and final positions of the molecules. Note how for the case in which quantum statistics is included, initial and final positions of all molecules are shuffled.
