Abstract
Geometric helicity, observed in diverse architectures, can be engineered into supramolecular structures using metal coordination, hydrogen bonding, or macromolecular constraints. The chirality arising from preferential ligand orientation around metal centers distinguishes between homochiral helicates (all metal centers with the same chirality, ∆ or Λ) and heterochiral helicates (alternating ∆ and Λ chirality). This short review article will concentrate on coordination-driven, tri-nuclear triple-stranded helicates, exploring both homo-chiral and hetero-chiral versions.
