An Alternate Prism for Viewing Social Capital and Residential Segregation in the Jane-Finch Community — a Research Piece incorporating easy-to-understand data analysis
Bibliographic record
Abstract
The Jane-Finch community of Toronto, Ontario, Canada is notoriously portrayed as Toronto’s black sheep. It is a residential area associated with increased crime and increased poverty, an image reinforced in media portrayals of the community over the years (Gherson, 1997, Trickey, 1989, Marc & Keilburger, 2015). Primary academic literature on the Jane-Finch community reveals a consensus that the lower economic capital of the residentially-segregated Jane-Finch community residents leads to reduced social capital for this community (Owusu 1999, Zaami 2015, Opoku-Dapah, 1993, Wong 2000). Much of this research precedes the last two decades. In this paper’s contribution to the broader literature on the Jane-Finch community and its associated census tract, an updated reflection on the community’s acquisition of social capital is offered, drawing on population demographics for this community over the last two decades.
Fetched live from OpenAlex and de-inverted. Abstracts are not stored in this database: the inverted indexes are 8.6 GB of the frame’s 9.3 GB of text, and the host has 13 GB free.

Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one teacher head, not a consensus.
