Restoring Cladonia subgenus Cladina in a post mine environment
Bibliographic record
Abstract
The woodland caribou (Rangifer tarandus caribou) boreal population is listed on Schedule 1 of the Federal Species at Risk Act as Threatened. During critical winter months, boreal caribou rely on Cladonia subgenus Cladina as their primary food source. To better understand how to rehabilitate winter habitat for caribou in a post mine environment in northeastern Ontario, different substrate (mine till and a gravel-capped forest road), amendments (peat, wood chips, and an erosion blanket), and lichen abundance (fragments and mat transplants) were evaluated for establishment for 23 months. The mine till and the post mine environment examined did not support the establishment of transplanted lichen fragments or mats, regardless of the amendments applied. However, lichen fragments and mats did establish on a gravel-capped forest roadway, and the amendments had no effect on establishment. Results indicate that Cladonia subgenus Cladina is both dispersal and substrate limited, and that transplanted lichen fragments and mats will establish on gravel-capped forest roadways in the boreal forest. What remains unclear is whether Cladonia subgenus Cladina fragments or mats are better suited for establishing lichen communities on gravel-capped forest roadways.

Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.

machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one source (direct Gemma or distilled Codex), not a consensus.
