Abstract
Allen Archaeology Limited was commissioned by D2 Projects Limited to undertake a historic building survey of King's Head north of High Street in Morton, Lincolnshire. King's Head is an 18th century public house in limestone with later brick repairs and 19th and 20th century architectural additions. Its earliest features incorporate a back to back fireplace, oak roof structure covered by reed, laths and plaster and mud and stud partitions. It appears to have incorporated 19th century auxiliary buildings to the north and east which may have been outbuildings and or a stable and coach house. These were demolished in the late 19th century and in the late 20th century. The pub was also extended in the 19th century to the east and southeast. A kitchen extension and a toilet block were added in the late 20th century. In 2007 King's Head caught fire and was heavily damaged. A site visit was prohibited due to the risk for health and safety. A structural survey was accomplished in 2013 which has provided the photographs for this report. These photographs and the study of available records have provided a permanent record to be made of the King's Head.
