Abstract
In order to investigate the archaeological potential of a proposed residential development site located to the east of The How, Houghton Road, St Ives, Cambridgeshire, the Heritage Network was commissioned to undertake a field evaluation by trial trenching. Five trenches were excavated across the site: four trenches were 25m in length and one measured 20m. A ditch containing a ceramic land drain was exposed in Trench 1 and a shallow modern pit was investigated in Trench 2. Further ceramic land drains were observed across the site. No further archaeological finds, features or deposits were observed. On the basis of the results of the evaluation, the risk that the proposed development might have a negative impact on remains of archaeological significance may be considered to be Low for all periods.
