Dataset: Provides statistics on the population in Canada by immigrant status: immigrants, nonpermanent residents (persons in Canada on a Work Permit or Study Permit, refugee claimants, and family members living with them) and nonimmigrants (Canadian citizens by birth). Data provided include general population characteristics, geographic distribution, demographic characteristics, and specific information on period of immigration and period of arrival in Canada; age at immigration or arrival in Canada; immigrants’ admission category, place of birth and place of birth of parents; citizenship; use and knowledge of languages; religion; family; civic participation; attitudes and values; social networks; perceived discrimination and unfair treatment; education, training, and skills; labor market outcomes, incomes; and more. CANSIM is Statistics Canada's key socioeconomic database. The datasets included here provide statistics on the Canadian population, and the nation’s resources, economy, society, and culture. In addition to conducting a Census every five years, approximately 350 active surveys are conducted on virtually all aspects of Canadian life. Statistics are provided for the nation as a whole, provinces, and other subnational geographies where available.
