Abstract
Location: Dublin City; Patrick Street, Mount Street Bridge, Cuffe Street, Harcourt Street, High Street. Subject: Single page from the diary of Michael Healy, stained glass artist and founder of An Túr Gloine. Healy’s entry begins with how he went out on the bike shortly after 7am but could not go very far as he found that the city was very unsettled. He returned at 9am for breakfast. Healy describes how he walked as far as Patrick Street and saw crowds of people seeking bread at ‘Kennedys.’ He did not go out after tea and notes that there was a large fire on the north side of the city and as he got as far as Mount Street Bridge, he was warned by another cyclist to not cycle any further. Healy remembers seeing the body of a dead volunteer at the corner of Cuffe Street and Harcourt Street. The volunteer was accidently shot through the mouth, earlier that morning. He comments that some people said that the wound was accidently self-inflicted. He later found out that his name was Ryan of No. 3 High Street and he was about seventeen years old.
