Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

A comparative assessment of six different sampling techniques was undertaken in selected boreal mixed-wood forest watersheds of northern Ontario. The sampling methods included, drift fences with pitfall traps, solitary pitfall traps, night encounter surveys, and three types of cover objects (modified, patio stone, and plywood). Significant differences in salamander capture rates were observed among the selected watersheds. Results suggest that the combination of modified cover objects and solitary pitfall traps is the optimal approach for obtaining information on salamander populations in these watersheds. In this study 'Plethodon cinereus' (Green) occurred more often under modified cover objects and in the riparian zone as compared to other cover objects and to upland zones respectively. Results also indicated that salamanders bred preferentially in ponds as compared to stream edges. Salamander captures were significantly lower on sites with high levels of coarse woody debris compared to sites with lower levels. Salamander captures were not correlated with percent canopy cover.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
