Abstract
Skripsi ini membahas tentang Biografi Muhammad Ali: Peran dalam Bidang Sastra di Surabaya 1942-1998. Dalam penelitian ini metode yang digunakan adalah metode penelitian sejarah yang meliputi pengumpulan data, kritik sumber, interpretasi \ndan historiografi. Data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah buku-buku karya Muhammad Ali yang sudah diterbitkan, wawancara dengan informan yang dekat dengan Muhammad Ali, serta koran-koran yang menerbitkan atau yang berisi informasi mengenai Muhammad Ali. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, ditemukan bahwa Muhammad Ali merupakan seorang sastrawan Surabaya yang menulis dengan menggunakan pendekatan sosial masyarakat bawah. Tulisan-tulisan yang \nmenggunakan latar belakang kemiskinan dan kondisi sosial masyarakat bawah saat itu diminati oleh pembacanya. Muhammad Ali juga tergabung dalam organisasi organisasi sastra yang ada di Surabaya untuk menunjangnya berkembang dalam bidang sastra kala itu. Muhammad Ali akhirnya dikenal sebagai penulis yang penuh dengan realistik dalam penulisan karyanya. Hal tersebut terjadi karena ia mengalami \nsendiri kemiskinan tersebut.
