Abstract
Se analizaron las propiedades mecánicas de 18 cubos de pastas de cemento Portland y 18 cubos de mortero con arena de Ottawa; confirmando experimentalmente que la resistencia a la compresión es mayor bajo curado húmedo que bajo curado ambiente. Desde el punto de vista petrográfico, se analizaron 24 secciones delgadas de pastas de cemento y 24 secciones delgadas de morteros, de muestras curadas por inmersión y al aire durante 7 y 28 días, en una cámara de curado. Las características petrográficas de los minerales de cemento y productos de hidratación estudiados, permitieron determinar que bajo curado húmedo se forma más gel C-S-H y cristales de portlandita más gruesos que bajo curado ambiente, es decir, hay mayor grado de hidratación en las muestras, esto coincide con los resultados obtenidos en los ensayos de resistencia a la compresión. Se determinó que los valores de relación A/C utilizados, no son relevantes para la variación del contenido y del tamaño de las fases minerales.
