Objetivos: o estudo tem como objetivo determinar quais os determinantes psicossociais subjacentes à adesão à terapêutica da Escrita Expressiva (EE), e se esta terapêutica potencia um aumento do Bem-Estar Psicológico (BEP) numa população feminina com cancro de mama e sobreviventes ao mesmo. Literatura: A Expressão emocional (através da escrita) é uma forma de impedir o decréscimo do BEP que se verifica após o término do tratamento e ao longo dos anos. Método: Participantes do sexo feminino (n = 22) escreveram 20 minutos por dia, durante 3 dias consecutivos, sobre os seus sentimentos e pensamentos mais profundos relativos à vivência do cancro da mama, ou sobre os medos e angústias enquanto sobrevivente. O BEP foi avaliado em 4 momentos (pré e pós-intervenção, e dois períodos de 1 mês e 3 meses de follow-up), usando a Escala de Medida de Manifestação de Bem-Estar Psicológico (Monteiro, Tavares & Pereira, 2006). Para explorar os determinantes psicossociais subjacentes à adesão à EE, foram utilizados ainda os seguintes instrumentos: Escala de Ajustamento Mental ao Cancro (estratégias de coping) (Pais-Ribeiro, Ramos & Samico, 2003); NEO - FFI (Sub-escala Neuroticismo) (Lima, 1997); Escala de Alexitimia de Toronto (Prazeres, 1996); Revised Life Orientation Test (Otimismo) (Laranjeira, 2008); Brief Symptom Inventory (Sub-escala Depressão) (Canavarro, 1999); por último, Escala de Expressividade Emocional (Dinis, Gouveia & Xavier, 2011); Os dados obtidos foram analisados através de ANOVAS, ANOVAS de Medidas Repetidas e contagem de palavras (LIWC), enquanto a análise de conteúdo foi utilizada para avaliar as 66 narrativas produzidas. Resultados: Os fatores sociodemográficos e a saúde atual parecem determinantes psicossociais determinantes para a adesão à EE. Não se verificou um impacto significativamente estatístico da EE no BEP após a escrita e nos períodos de follow-up, contrariamente aos resultados qualitativos que revelam um claro impacto da EE no BEP após a escrita e nos períodos de follow-up.
