Abstract
Töölönlahden alue sijaitsee ympäröivästä luonnosta Helsingin keskustaan ulottuvan Keskuspuiston kärjessä. \nKaupungin ytimessä aluetta ympäröi kolmelta suunnalta pääosin eheät rakennusrintamat. \nAlueen halkaisee päärautatieaseman ratapiha joka jakaa kaupungin kahtia. \nTämä diplomityö on suunnitelma kaupunginosien yhdistämiseksi sijoittamalla alueelle asemakaavassa varattu rakentaminen silloiksi ratapihan päälle. \nRakennusten arkkitehtuurissa viherrakentamisella on keskeinen rooli: kaupunkikuvallisesti rakentaminen istutetaan osaksi puistomaisemaa puistokansilla ja viherkatoilla. \nRakennusten väliset puistokannet muodostuvat osaksi keskustan kevyenliikenteen verkostoa. \n\nOlennainen osa suunnitelmaa on julkinen rakentamisohjelma: julkiset toiminnat muodostavat niin fyysisen kuin toiminnallisen sillan ratapihan yli. \nRakentamalla radan päälle parannetaan kaupunginosien välisten yhteyksien lisäksi myös rakennettavien toimintojen saavutettavuutta. \nHelsingin ajankohtaisista rakennushankkeista suunnitelmaan kuuluu keskustakirjasto ja kylpylä. \nRadan päälle rakennettaisiin myös kulttuuritalo sekä liikuntatalo puistojen toimintoja tukemaan. \nSuunnitelmaan kuuluu myös Kansalaisjärjestöjen talo tulevan Kansalaistorin äärelle. \n\nSuunnitelma mahdollistaa ympäröivien puistojen kehittämisen niiden omien lähtökohtien pohjalta. \nMonipuoliset liikenneyhteydet vähentävät umpikujamaisuutta ja julkiset toiminnot tuovat alueelle sosiaalisen läsnäolon.
