Une grande partie des ressources en nickel (Ni), cuivre (Cu), cobalt (Co) et platinoïdes (EGP) sont extraites de gîtes miniers formés dans des systèmes magmatiques intrusifs. Dans ces systèmes, une phase de sulfure magmatique (sulfure liquide) précipite à partir d’un magma silicaté, s’enrichit en ces métaux puis se concentre dans des pièges structuraux, souvent à géométrie complexe, à l’intérieur des intrusions ou des conduits magmatiques. Les contrôles structuro-dynamiques jouent un rôle à toutes les échelles, de l’échelle crustale qui régit la canalisation et l’ascension des magmas minéralisateurs, à celle des intrusions où les sites de mise en place sont contrôlés par la structure de l’encaissant et les processus structuraux ignés (p. ex. relèvement du toit, affaissement du plancher), jusqu’aux échelles métriques et inférieures où jouent la dynamique des magmas immiscibles et le refoulement gravitationnel des sulfures liquides denses. À partir de l’exemple de Voisey’s Bay, en autres, nous discuterons de ces contrôles physiques et leurs rôles dans l’élaboration de critères d’exploration pour les gîtes magmatiques intrusifs de Ni-Cu-EGP au Québec.
