Abstract
Ottoman Empire employed many craftsman in Golden Horn Shipyard for the building of galleys and galleons and even imperial caiques. Craftsmen from different occupational groups have been paid differently according to their line of work. As well as Muslims and non-Muslims employed with monthly salaries, unskilled workers with daily salaries employed also depending on the state of the operation. Considering the period between XVI. century and XIX. century, the religious profiles of the employees have been changed. It can be said that number of non-Muslim craftsmen work in Golden Horn Shipyard has been increased especially with the Westernization period. Concurrently some craftsmen work in shipyards in Anatolia, employed in Istanbul from time to time.
