Abstract
Manfred Borchert, jeden z předních tvůrců koncepce volné německé školy, dlouholetý učitel a zakladatel Volné školy v Bochumi a tajemník Evropského fóra pro svobodu ve výchově (EFFE) se ve svém příspěvku, který byl přednesen v rámci přednáškového cyklu na Pedagogické fakultě UK v Praze v roce 2000 ve spolupráci se Vzdělávací nadací Jana Husa (Brno), zabývá problematikou míry demokracie ve školách. V úvodu postihuje možnosti demokratičnosti školy jako instituce a na základě názorů J. Deweye prezentuje praktické řešení školy jako demokratické instituce, přičemž využívá příkladů z reformně pedagogického hnutí. Hlavním smyslem textu je prezentace praktických příkladů z působení vybraných škol (Summerhill, Volné školy v Německu, Sudbury Valley School v USA a freinetovské školy), přičemž bohatě využívá vlastních zkušeností. V závěru textu uvádí Borchert některé předpoklady pro úspěšné zavádění demokratických životních a pracovních forem do školy. Práce je opatřena rozšiřující bibliografií.
