Abstract
DNA taken from dogs shows they've been man's best friend for about 33-thousand years. The British newspaper The Guardian says a team of scientists from China, Canada the U.S. and beyond has found the grey wolf was likely the first to make contact with humans, somewhere in south-east Asia. It was about 15-thousand years ago when a small pack of domesticated dogs started moving toward the Middle East and Africa, and later Europe, when people started building villages and using dogs to keep guard. The study, in the journal Cell Research, compared the genomes -- or genetic inheritances --of dozens of indigenous dogs and selective breeds -- like the Afghan hound and Siberian husky. The scientists say this study's the first to show the extraordinary journey the domestic dog has traveled.
