Abstract
Rick Atkinson, en su interesante obra Los cañones del atardecer anotó que El Daily Mail, de Londres, informó que el lunes 7 de mayo (1945), una docena de ancianos estuvieron durante horas, “aguardando con cuerdas en la mano y esperanza en el corazón para lanzar al vuelo las campanas de San Pablo en un redoble de triunfo”. En vano: no hubo redoble ni una sola campana repicó. Moscú impidió la proclamación del final de la guerra hasta que se hubiese firmado una debida capitulación de las fuerzas alemanas en el Frente Oriental en Berlín, es decir, tras la victoria rusa, razón por la cual el Día de la Victoria en Europa no se haría oficial hasta el día siguiente, 8 de mayo.
