Se recurre a la obra del creador canadiense Robert Lepage (Quebec, 1957), para mostrar la pertinencia de la perspectiva intermedial en el análisis de las producciones culturales contemporáneas. La intermedialidad aboga por el examen inmanente de las operaciones de mediación y de intercambio que tienen lugar durante el encuentro de diferentes sustancias y que dan pie a los fenómenos de significación. En su cuestionamiento de la identidad, la intermedialidad antepone al escrutinio del texto y de la representación, elde la materia y de las relaciones que esta establece. El trabajo de Lepage, un creador escénico y audiovisual que ha dirigido obras de teatro y de ópera, espectáculos musicales y circenses y largometrajes de ficción, no solamente es adecuado para un análisis desde la perspectiva intermedial, sino que contiene él mismo una reflexión en torno a la intermedialidad característica de las sociedades contemporáneas.
