Abstract
Se ha iniciado un estudio sobre el efecto en las variaciones de potencial entre la cañería y suelo (PSP) con la estructura conductora de la Tierra. En estudios previos, se han observado grandes variaciones PSP en una cañería de gas que atraviesa el valle del río Ottawa, en Ontario. Específicamente, cerca de Amprior en contacto con rocas resistivas Precámbricas y sedimentos rocosos Paleozoicos más conductores. Comenzamos realizando sondeos magnetotelúricos (MT) en cuatro sitios espaciados 25 kilómetros cada uno, en paralelo a la tubería, para obtener el campo geoélectrico continuo (Ex, Ey) y el campo magnético (Bx,By, Bz) en función del tiempo por un período de hasta 12 horas de duración. Dos sitios estaban en rocas precámbricas y dos sitios en rocas paleozoicas. Durante las mediciones de MT, la tubería fue equipada con 5 dataloggers que medían variaciones PSP (con una frecuencia de muestreo de 1 Hz) en 9 localizaciones diferentes para obtener los valores correspondientes con los datos de MT.
