This doctoral thesis in geography is the result of a participatory photography and speculative storytelling project with farmers and beekeepers in the Swiss Jura (Cantons of Neuchâtel and Jura). Based on their photographs of landscapes that best represent their relationship with water, we discussed water, the products they consider polluting and the activities that could be found or take place in these landscapes. These discussions enabled us to write an oral history of polluting practices, and to reflect on how polluting products have influenced the lives and environment of farmers and beekeepers. They also described how they feel in solidarity with people and species impacted by chemical pollution, and what forms of care and solidarity they have developed together. Secondly, the farmers and beekeepers imagined what one of the photographed landscapes would look like in a probable and a desired future. Finally, this thesis developed a framework for applying the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework to the environmental impact analysis of a free trade agreement. This framework reinforces the participation of those most impacted by a potential free trade agreement. It also allows for better integration of different expertise, thanks to a review system consolidating preliminary results.
\nOverall, this thesis enables us to reflect on the issues of water quality, biodiversity loss and socio-economic vulnerability caused by chemical pollution. The thesis explores a pluralistic approach based on a participatory, visual and speculative methodology encouraging the sharing of experiences, (emotional) feelings and commitment to biodiversity and good quality of life.

\nCette thèse de doctorat en géographie est le fruit d’un projet de photographie participative et de narration spéculative avec des agriculteurs et des apiculteurs dans le Jura Suisse (Cantons de Neuchâtel et du Jura). Sur la base de leurs photographies de paysages représentant le mieux leur rapport à l’eau, nous avons discuté de l’eau, des produits qu’ils considèrent polluant et des activités qui pourraient se trouver ou se dérouler dans ces paysages. Ces discussions ont permis d’écrire une histoire orale des pratiques polluantes et de réfléchir comment les produits polluants ont influencé la vie et l’environnement des agriculteurs et des apiculteurs. Ceux-ci ont également décrit comment ils se sentent en solidarité avec des personnes et des espèces impactées par la pollution chimique et quelles formes de soin et de solidarité ils ont ensemble développées. Dans un deuxième temps, les agriculteurs et les apiculteurs ont imaginé à quoi ressembleraient l’un des paysages photographiés dans un avenir probable et dans un avenir désiré.
\nFinalement, cette thèse a développé un cadre d’application du Cadre mondial de la biodiversité de Kunming-Montréal pour l’analyse d’incidence environnementale d’un accord de libre-échange. Ce cadre renforce la participation des personnes les plus impactées par un éventuel accord de libre-échange. Il permet également une meilleure intégration de différentes expertises grâce un système de consolidation des résultats intermédiaires.
\nDans l’ensemble, cette thèse permet de réfléchir aux problématiques de qualité des eaux, de perte de biodiversité et de vulnérabilité socio-économique provoquée par la pollution chimique. La thèse explore une approche pluraliste basée sur une méthodologie participative, visuelle et spéculative encourageant le partage d’expériences, de ressentis (émotionnels) et d’engagements en faveur de la biodiversité et de la qualité de vie.
