Conçu dans le cadre des commémorations Canada-France 2004, le portail www.archivescanadafrance.org est le fruit d'une collaboration exemplaire entre des équipes de spécialistes français et canadiens, qui a pour ambition d'offrir au grand public, comme aux chercheurs, les sources d'archives numérisées concernant l'histoire de la France au Canada. Grâce à des technologies de pointe, le portail propose une base de données de près d'un million d'images, tandis qu'une exposition virtuelle retrace l'histoire de l'établissement et du maintien de la colonie française au Canada. Des produits pédagogiques et généalogiques devraient compléter le portail et attirer des publics spécifiques, tandis que l'intégration dans la base de données d'images numérisées se poursuivra grâce à de nouveaux partenariats. Entré dans sa deuxième phase en février 2005, le portail www.archivescanadafrance.org représente un remarquable effort professionnel pour mettre au point des réponses scientifiques et technologiques à la question des mémoires partagées.
