Abstract
Une analyse détaillée des données géophysiques recueillies dans les secteurs est et sud des Iles-de-la-Madeleine a permis d'apporter des informations sur l'évolution géomorphologique du fond marin depuis la dernière glaciation. Ces données révèlent un fond marin peu accidenté constitué principalement de sédiments sablo-graveleux. Dans le secteur sud-ouest, des indices de la dernière glaciation, interprétés comme étant des crêtes morainiques, indiquent un retrait glaciaire vers l'ouest. Une paléo-lagune et les traces d'un ancien réseau hydrographique aujourd'hui submergés ont été identifiés au sud de l'archipel. La dynamique sédimentaire récente est caractérisée par deux environnements : des systèmes en accrétion et des zones de non-déposition. Des champs de dunes transversales caractérisent les systèmes d'accumulation observés dans la baie de Plaisance et au sud des Iles-de-la-Madeleine. Les indices morphologiques associés aux environnements de non-déposition sont la présence d'affleurements rocheux au nord-est de l'archipel et d'un lag graveleux au sud de la baie de Plaisance.
