Abstract
In the quarter October -December 2013, 22,600 certificates were issued for higher level qualifications, a decline of 16 per cent compared with 27,050 in October -December 2012.The number of available qualifications declined, from 2,647 qualifications in July -September 2013 to 2,598 this quarter (a 2 per cent decrease).The decline was in all types of qualifications except those in the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) and vocationally related qualifications.Over the past 5 years, the number of awarding organisations offering and awarding higher level qualifications has grown continually, but this quarter only two more awarding organisations offered qualifications compared with quarter 3 of 2012 (136 awarding organisations compared with 134) (see page 6).The number of certificates awarded in Level 4 qualifications decreased by 29 per cent this quarter compared with the same quarter of 2012 (11,650 compared with 16,400).The majority of the decline was in diploma qualifications in the business, administration, finance and law sector subject area, particularly in financial planning and financial advisers qualifications (see page 16 onwards).
