Abstract
Luz del Sur (antes Edelsur) fue creada al 1ro. de enero de 1994. El 18 de agosto de 1994 Ontario Quinta A.V.V. adquirió del Estado Peruano el 60% de las acciones de la empresa. En agosto de 1996 la Empresa se escindió creándose la actual Luz del Sur, a la que se le transfirió la concesión de distribución de energía eléctrica. El mismo año. se incorporó la Empresa Eléctrica de Cañete, Edecañete S.A., al adquirir el 100% de su propiedad al Estado Peruano. En setiembre de 1999, el consorcio Peruvian Opportunity Company S.A.C. adquirió el 22,46% de las acciones de la Empresa en una Oferta Pública de Adquisición realizada en la Bolsa de Valores de Lima. El giro de negocio principal de la Empresa es realizar actividades de distribución eléctrica, pero también el poder realizar nuevos negocios. Uno de estos negocios pretende ser el de desarrollo de sistemas informáticos, aprovechando el conocimiento acumulado del negocio del sector eléctrico y aplicando la tecnología de punta que actualmente se encuentra en el mercado.
