Bu proje kapsamında Balat semti ve çevresinde ya da halen yaşamakta olan farklı sosyo-ekonomik kesimlerden ve farklı dinsel topluluklardan toplam altmış (60) kaynak kişi ile yaşam tarihlerini kapsayan sözlü tarih görüşmelerini temel alan bir "semt sözlü tarihi" çalışmasını kapsamaktadır. Semtteki toplumsal ve kültürel dokunun çok katmanlı yapısının dününe ve bugününe ilişkin bir değerlendirmesinin yanısıra semtin/bölgenin iktisat tarihi ve semt esnafının tanıklıkları aracılığıyla araştırılmıştır. Yanı sıra, bu semtlerdeki farklı toplulukların gerek tarihi gerek bugünü açısından önemli yeri olan kurumlar, tarihleri ve bugünkü işlevleri bakımından incelenecektir
