El centollón Paralomis granulosa en el Mar Argentino se distribuye en proximidades de las Islas Malvinas y litoral de las provincias de Tierra del Fuego, Antártida e Islas del Atlántico Sur y Santa Cruz en aguas templado-frías de origen subantártico de entre 4 y 15°C. El ciclo reproductivo comienza a fines del invierno y principios de la primavera y la eclosión ocurre después que las hembras portan los huevos durante aproximadamente 18 meses. Con posterioridad, en octubre y noviembre, se produce la muda, el apareamiento y la oviposición. Como consecuencia del largo período de embriogénesis, las hembras se reproducen cada dos años. El desarrollo larval, más corto en P. granulosa que en Lithodes santolla, comprende dos estadios de zoea y uno de megalopa. Se identifican tres efectivos pesqueros en distinto estado de explotación. En 1994, debido a la fuerte caída de los rendimientos de centolla, el del Canal Beagle se convirtió en un importante recurso artesanal. Al efectivo de la costa atlántica de la Provincia de Tierra del Fuego, Antártida e Islas del Atlántico Sur lo captura una pequeña flota costera con puerto base en Río Grande. El de las Islas Malvinas, que no se explota en la actualidad, se distribuye en aguas costeras.
