Abstract
Jean-Pierre Wallot est historien, spécialiste d'histoire économique et sociale. Ex-archiviste national du Canada et membre de l'Institut d'études canadiennes, il est actuellement directeur du Centre de recherche en civilisation canadienne-française de l'Université d'Ottawa. En janvier 2000, il était le conférencier invité du Centre interuniversitaire d'études québécoises, où il présentait un bilan de ses réflexions et de ses recherches sur le Bas-Canada. Nous sommes heureux de reproduire ici cet exposé dans ce numéro spécial de Cheminements-Conférences. Ce petit recueil devrait convaincre de la richesse et de tout l'intérêt d'une réflexion historienne, trop rare encore, sur le temps.
