Examen des changements intervenus en un demi-siècle dans le répertoire d'action et le référentiel des syndicats français. On est passé d'un modèle de la mobilisation sociale à un système de groupes de pression en lutte pour le partage de positions de pouvoir et de ressources publiques. Cette évolution coïncide avec un affaiblissement continu des effectifs syndiqués et un émiettement des organisations. On montre également que cette évolution permet des changements rapides dans les relations industrielles qui rapprochent la France du modèle nord-américain. Plusieurs indices laissent penser que ces changements sont globalement peu favorables aux salariés français. Enfin, la notion de "groupe de pression" est complétée par deux concepts : "entrepreneurs de morale" et "partis de cartel".
