Abstract
Quels sont les éléments qui garantissent l'appartenance de l'Australie, du Canada et de la Nouvelle-Zélande au Commonwealth d'aujourd'hui ? Alors que cette réponse paraît simple pour d'autres Etats membres, elle ne l'est pas autant pour les dominions. Nous répondons à cette question en abordant les volets politique, géopolitique, sécuritaire, économique, et culturel et social. Ainsi, nous trouvons que le Commonwealth présente un certain nombre d'intérêts pour l'ensemble de ses membres, mais davantage encore pour les pays y étant influents. Nous trouvons également que l'importance que l'organisation réserve à la société civile, son mode de fonctionnement ouvert, consensuel et normatif, ainsi que ses valeurs définissent l' « identité Commonwealth », et sous-tendent l'ensemble de son action. Enfin, nous procédons à une vérification des éléments mis en lumière par une étude de cas centrée sur le Canada.
